This is the kind of book that makes me wish I could just jump inside and live in it. This great resource includes pattern examples from 101 amazing designers and artists. There are examples of everything from traditional geometric grids to abstract shapes and swirls. You can either push yourself to learn a thing or two from these examples, or just use the color inspiration for an art project. It is awesome.
"In the hands of the artistic, geometrics can be the height of minimal modernity, mid-century retro, tribal, or optical. Anything is possible."
The patterns in this book are shown as original artwork... but also in many forms like wrapping paper, bags, stationery, and housewares. It is fun to see how pattern works its magic in surface design.
It would be a miss to write a post about this fabulous book without mentioning the author. Bowie Style (a.k.a. Marie Perkins) runs a blog called Print & Pattern, which is another super place to gather inspiration. Once you visit, you'll need to go back again and again, because there is always something fresh and cool to explore. It was one of the first places I found when I started learning about pattern and it is still one of my favorites.
