As far as studios go, I'm pretty happy with my little slice of creative world. Though it may be cramped and stuffed, it has most everything I need. I have a sewing table, a few bookshelves, a desk for my computer, a large work table, and ample bulletin and white boards. I have tons of magazines and art/design books, art supplies, paper, fabric, and some great speakers to listen to either music or my favorite podcasts. I have a couple of chairs so I can have company (usually my daughter). I also feel that lighting is important. I have a few overhead pot lights in weird spots, so I also have a few little lamps, a task lamp by my sewing machine, and a pendant over my work table.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON?
My personal studio is the base for many of my projects. I love to sew Minis for my Etsy shop Heather Roth Style. I also use the space for graphic design work... I have a few freelance clients that I am working with. I design patterns and develop artwork for textile design and am currently working on a collection called Powerful Strength. My studio is also open for time spent with my daughter who has recently found a love of sewing and enjoys crafting clothes and accessories for her American Girl doll. And, of course, I'm working on developing ideas and content for the best creative community ever: Pattern Method!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TOOL?
I have lots of fun supplies in my studio... but my recent favorite is a beautiful pencil sharpener that is mounted to my wall. It was a birthday gift from my family. It sharpens pencils wicked good.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING?
If I could change one thing about my studio it would be to add more natural light. I do have two little basement windows which do bring some light into the space, but more would be so wonderful.
Thanks for checking out my space! I'd love to see photos of what your space looks like, or comment about what inspired you below...
